Foreign IP address wants to access account?

I have been playing the game Fortnite for some time now and now Epic Games has emailed me a stranger IP address (could find location, apparently someone from Vienna (not my environment), possibly someone from a cafe) wanted to log in to my account. Epic wrote in the email, if this IP address was not me (or I do not have a new location), I should change my password. I have done that now. I also did two-factor authentication recently. But can I rely on that to help and can I do anything else to prevent this IP address from accessing my account? Request for feedback!

First, it is enough. If it happens again, you should consider using a keylogger or similar. On the PC.

I think if you follow the steps of Epic Games so far nothing can go wrong. For the potential attacker, however, it would be possible to get back into your account. To avoid that, you can download a VPN and activate it. Thus, your IP is encrypted and no one can "hack" you anymore (with very high probability). Only drawback so a VPN costs mostly money. A good VPN but would be eg. NordVPN. But I can only recommend a free trial month to do with it because I think it already costs some money and you want to spend your money as a passionate Fortniter players in V-Bucks.

Probably a scam e-mail

Here are many dangerous half-truths mixed.

First of all, a VPN does not protect you from hacking your own account.
This only makes sense if you do not trust your own network, where you are connected to the Internet.
The IP is also not encrypted.

You do not have to download a VPN. All modern operating systems natively offer the possibility to establish a VPN connection. Even with the service of NordVPN no additional software is absolutely necessary.

Malware or unsafe passwords are unimpressed by a VPN connection, but should be eliminated first.

1. The IP is encrypted

2. You probably do not know how to hack. A hacker always starts with the IP address and then comes step by step into the IP address. If the IP is encrypted then you can't find the account.

3. With the paragraph "A VPN…" you can be right

ly

If the IP were encrypted then you would not be able to communicate with any regular web page anymore. Probably not even with your own router.

Aha do you know a Tor Browser there it works too

ly

No, it does not work there. Since the IP is obfuscated, not encrypted. The contact to the first gate node you do btw. Still with your own IP, totally open to recognize your provider. He only sees that you use the TOR network, but not what other calls you make there.

I think you're right, at least I had the right approach.

Hi

Point 2 is just as 1 simply not correct.

What does this have to do with the IP? How should one be able to hack into an account with the IP address? And how should one thereby "find" the account? It's all about the credentials, nothing else. And there the IP does not matter.
