Ps4 and Fortnite?

My friend and I were just about to play Fortnite. Now we have a problem because it was an update and I (playing on the PC) have no problems with the game but my friend (playing PS4) comes into the game but can't join my group, as that is always displayed an update is necessary. (But according to the playstation it has the latest version). Could that be because the PS5 comes out and Fortnite is then no longer made playable (that's actually the case, but I mean that you can no longer play it).

No Fortnite will certainly still be playable on the Ps4, I would recommend you to restart the Ps4 and then look again for updates and if it still doesn't work, look again on the PC.
