Is it worth upgrading from the RTX 2070 to an RTX 3070?

I wanted to ask whether the upgrade is worthwhile, which is described in the title. I know that there are no tests etc. But the 3070 should be as good as an RTX 2080 TI. Is the upgrade worth it then? The 3070 only has 8GB. My CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 4GHz, would that be a bottleneck?

Play Fortnite, Valorant, Hyperscape, Forza Horizon 4, GTA 5.

The processor should even be close to 2070, so first a new processor, I recommend the Ryzen 7 3800X. And the upgrade is worth it but if possible I would save 200 euro and get the 3080 with 10gb gddr6x ram

Maybe I wanted to wait for AMD Ryzen 4000 and hit it. The GPU then possibly first next year. The RTX 2070 is still enough for now, isn't it?

Sh

You're right, then you'll have enough time to save. But really do it and don't make the same mistake as me, because I couldn't wait and bought a 2080ti 5 weeks ago and now I have the salad.

Ky

I bought my 2070 just a month ago, but first of all I didn't expect these prices and I didn't have 500 euro available at the moment.

During the setup, an upgrade of the CPU would be better for now. Depending on what you want, the new 3600xt from AMD is sometimes sufficient. Otherwise, of course, the paths are also open to other higher-quality AMD or Intel CPUs.

If you trust Nvidia, switching from a 2070 to a 3070 should be relatively worthwhile, as they themselves advertise that the 3070 is significantly better than the 2080 (ti). But if you were to upgrade the graphics card first, it can happen that you run into a major bottleneck between CPU and GPU.

A little tip on the side: You always have a bottleneck, it can either be felt little or felt strongly.

Ky

Okay thank you very much. Because ray tracing and DLSS 2.0 is now coming in Fortnite, I was afraid that the 2070 would not be able to handle the performance. Do you think the 2070 would handle it with pretty high graphics settings and ray tracing, Dlss 2.0? I will upgrade cpu in the future.

So DLSS is just a feature of the graphics cards that have no negative impact on the game. DLSS itself only helps to scale the game of the corresponding monitor resolution. That means the upcoming feature of DLSS won't slow your game. But I hardly believe that the RTX 2070 (Super) will run Rytracing well enough with high graphics settings. It always depends on which resolution you use. With 4K there's definitely nothing out of it, with WQHD it can be tight with high frame rates on high graphics settings (the 60 FPS mark may just be reached) and with Full HD 60 FPS should be possible.

I can't say exactly because I don't have any of these graphics cards or the game itself and I haven't looked at any reviews or benchmarks about them. Therefore, my statement is based only on my opinion.
