How long can I keep a gift in Fortnite?

Wanted to buy a skin as a gift for a buddy. How long can you keep such a gift at all? Does that go on forever, or does it expire at some point? Or can't you keep it at all, but have to send it directly?

When giving away an item you have to select a recipient and can add a message.

If you confirm the shipment, it will go directly to the recipient.
