To the concern, "too brutal" I have to say that it is Fortnite is a comic version of the genre Battle Royal with funny elements in which the violence against opponents is not exaggerated and this concern is therefore unjustified.
Whether the parents' concern is a waste of time, it depends on how long the children play Fortnite, which is generally true of video games, the younger one is, the less time one should spend on video games.
The Fortnite is actually only from 12, but still many under 12 years manage to get to Fortnite, is still a problem. Also in many other games, even children under the age rating, come to the game. This is especially a problem because every game gets its age rating only because of this, because playing this game for people of this age no longer has sustainable consequences. The best solution to this problem is:
Fortnite, but also all other video games should be playable only in public arcades and Internet cafes, because only then can be made 100% sure that all players of video games have the age of the age rating. But you can also solve the other problem made by Fortnite and other video games: spending too much time on the game, in the public arcades and Internet cafes, by requiring that you stay there only as long as you can at most, should gamble at his age during the day, so that it has no negative consequences for his health.

I was pretty much left alone by my parents at my computer start times (SpectrumZX / C64 times). Have spent many hours in front of these boxes, but also had a balance on the "fresh" air (mopeds screw) and never had power losses or the like at school.
So pure BR games are nothing for me - often because of all the embryos in the game - and I do not think it's an optimal game. Too simple game mechanics - boring.
And if such games play many children - then the parents are responsible!
The worst thing is that all the kids give their full money for the cosmetic content, because they just do not have the feeling for it.
The last point I fidne not so great, because then gamer like me, thereby forced to play in these cafes, which will certainly annoy many normal adults, because there are not nearly enough cafes for all the people! The best solution would be that the parents finally take care of what the kids are doing on the internet! In my opinion, the children are not to blame. When I was small, I also wanted to gamble the whole time, because I still had no sense for it, maybe it is harmful to me. The parents should look more at their children! POINT.
