This is a Full HD monitor. A Full HD monitor resolves with 1920x1080 pixels.
To play stretched you change the resolution in width. The resolution in the amount of 1080 to set to 1024/900, for example, makes no sense, because then the image is blurred / pixelated, since less pixels are calculated by the graphics card as the monitor has.

So 1280x1080 should be quite good. 1080x1080 I think is a bit too extreme. Just have to try out what you like most. Try it first with 1280x1080
