How can I play fortnite on pc with controller?

If I connect the controller to the PC and start Fortnite I can't do anything.

Once it worked but I could not change the settings for the controller.

What kind of controller is it?

Xbox controller

Use the Xbox cable what you normally use, plug it into a USB hole from the pc, open fortnite and then plug the controller into the cable and simply move the sticks. Take a usb connection where it is not blue inside.

But I tried it a bit and was not able to place buildings although I chose to choose / place wall in the settings.

When I press or hold, it selects the building but does not place it. Double click is no use.
