I was once fully into the gamer scene, but it was a long time ago xD
Which games are currently in the hype, such as Fortnite 3 years ago?
Rust.
It doesn't matter what's in the hype. Just play where you feel like it, even in the most blatant fringe group games with gamers, the community is bigger than ever today.
The danger that people always open up like "the game is dead" happens even though there are 5000 players online on average on a regular basis. Because you then compare them with something like Fortnite or CS: "Go. Still, I don't have a minute que time for the corresponding games.
I don't have to play the most hyped games or anything, I won't even start playing anymore. I also asked out of pure interest.
Don't believe anything at the moment.
Of course, games like Fortnite, CSGO, GTA5 (RolePlay), LoL etc. Are always somehow in the hype but there's no real hype at the moment.
Valheim was a great success with 6 million sales in a short time, but that is aimed more at the "gamers" and not at the people who only play hype games such as Among Us.
But I'm not going to list the hype games over the past 3 years.
On YouTube there are currently Minecraft, Roblox and Garena Free Fire (not known in the USA or Germany, is a mobile shooter).
On Twitch, I think it's Rust, LoL, Fortnite, GTA5.
"Trending" are Among Us (new map) and Fall Guys (new season), as well as Valheim (Early Access Survival Sim).
But "like Fortnite 3 years ago" is not trending right now. Last year it was Animal Crossing and Among Us, this year it was Valheim, if at all.
Spontaneously, I would say Warzone or Minecraft now.
(Maybe not Fortnite, but never followed it.)
