I've been playing the Battle Royale 3rd person shooter for a few weeks now and still don't quite understand what to achieve. In most games it is important to have the level as high as possible. At Fortnite, however, the level expires after each season. Therefore the goal can't be to have a high level. Furthermore, it can't be about having the most and best skins, because they do not bring you anything and they only serve for the optics. So what is the goal then? What is to be achieved?
The concept of Fortnite is to keep playing and never to have seen everything
Build a skybase in the sky
A real "goal" at Fortnite is only in save the world mode. In Battle Royale mode, the highest possible level and thus the best rewards must be unlocked in the Battlepass every season. Some see it as a goal to collect as many skins, dances etc. As possible, but this is not for everyone because it can quickly cost a lot of money and is very time-consuming.
I therefore advise you to just play for fun, for example with friends. Since there's no real goal, it can never be boring in theory (which can happen in reality if you play too much).
If you want to have a goal and still want the Fortnite feeling, I can recommend the save the world mode for about 40 euro. Here you have to protect the world from the storm (e.g. Build a storm shield and defend it against zombies). There you can progress in the story and unlock better and better weapons.
I hope I could help you. It happened to me that after one year of playing Battle Royale I didn't feel like it anymore. When I got Save the World a week ago, I was really cunning again and have been playing a lot since then.
PS: a good side effect of saving the world mode is that you earn V-Bucks when you play with which you can buy the Battle Pass in Battle Royale mode.
Have fun playing.

If you don't want to buy the Battlepass, you don't have a chance to get skins and such?! That means that you are almost forced to get the Battlepass, otherwise it makes no sense to play Fortnite and you get no rewards?!
Every now and then there are events where you can get free backblings and rarely skins etc. There's also the free pass where you do not have to pay money, but also not quite as often and get good rewards as in the Battle Pass
Anyone in Fortnite is also about winning as many rounds as possible or getting a higher arena rank
You're right
