Have a question about copyright. What is it like to do a screenshot in Fortnite, for example? Can I edit it and use it as a Youtube banner? Actually already or, since you also have all of your thumbnails with screenshots, populated from games (at least it's Let's Player, so Youtuber, who specialize in games). Only I have also read that it is not allowed to use gaming screenshots that you make yourself in the games commercially and this confuses me somehow. Anyway, I'm not sure and I want to be on the safe side.
Short version: All InGame recordings and retransmissions of (edited) screenshots from games are illegal for commercial and non-commercial use! One is only half as bad, the other worse. For completely private use, it is but io, because no material really gets to the public by it. However, game manufacturers are often just tolerant and leave much as free advertising for themselves, but you are not hedged. The following applies: Uploading and redistributing video and image recordings at your own risk!
Just because everyone does it does not mean that it is allowed. Basically, everything you record inGame (no matter if video or picture) copyrighted material, because it makes the picture to edit the thing so not better, after all, you use copyright material for your own purposes. For private purposes, everything is fine and for a non-commercial use, it is often ok (sometimes is still required to specify at least one source), but in a commercial use, it is rather critical. If you want to protect yourself, there are three options: 1. Look in the Terms of Service and look for the legal section on using media or reusing content. Or 2. Just ask the game makers personally if it would be okay for them. Because you should receive a written permission (with restrictions if necessary), you are still on the safe side. Possibility # 3 would be just not to post content that contains such material, but of course it can be made more difficult with the videos.
It is true that in principle that is not really allowed, at least according to many terms of use, but many game makers make an exception here because ultimately it is nothing more than free advertising for them, you support them virtually free of charge. This does not mean that it would justify the image or video recordings, say… You can of course still be yelled for and legally you are standing with very bad cards, but there are just many who can handle this very tolerant, which is why it is rare which is why it is then also warned.
Even Blizzard writes that they allow the retransmission of images, texts, sounds or self-made screenshots from the games only with some restriction. More about this can be read here wonderfully: http://eu.blizzard.com/de-de/company/about/legal-faq.html
Fortnite, however, I would again look separately what they have on the topic in the FAQs (conditions of use) in it.
Thank you, for your very detailed answer. You will get the most helpful answer as soon as I can choose it. 😀
Always happy. And thank you for the future star.
Previously, that was not the case, that with only one answer you could distinguish it as the "most helpful answer"…
If no one bothers to answer, then it is indeed justified. Because instead of commenting on whether it was too early with the award, you can just as well still give a reasonable answer that could help the questioner. I'm not a star hunter, I just tried to inform and help him, as a thank you I got a star. Anyone could but before the star duty to post something or as I said now in hindsight, because no matter whether an answer was Helpful Excellent or not, any answer can be helpful and can also be highly valued. So seriously "aggravating" it because (m) a response was awarded very early is childish and not particularly helpful, Mr. Einstein.
To come back to the first sentence… Which answer should he otherwise have distinguished? I also think that my answer already contains sufficient information on the subject and probably other readers have felt it as well. Should something be missing or should I possibly even be somewhere wrong, one can still supplement the answer by writing a constructive and informative comment below or by writing your own answer. So what's the problem?
That's not what it meant, please do not feel attacked. Your answer is great, would probably have given you the most helpful answer. I just wondered that you changed that.
Oh ok, then I want to apologize for this misunderstanding. But it's true, I have the feeling that it has apparently been changed, probably they thought that would take too long. Something like that I had myself, for example, because I had an answer that was super helpful but I had to wait extremely long and keep it extremely long in my head until I was finally allowed to distinguish someone. Maybe it was just changed for such reasons again, because it seems to me personally even much shorter.
