I had the same problem a few days ago, but it affected a different game on the PS4.
I'm quite sure that in the past you had the option "player encounters" on the PS4, where you could see which people you were in voice chats with or gambled together with. I used this feature a lot in the past to see what kind of players have "invaded" me in Soulborn games.
For some time now, after a system update of some kind, this function seems to have disappeared. - I can't explain why such a great feature was removed, because that's exactly why I've met great people via PSN.

I really hope the feature will be reintroduced at some point. Because nowadays there are so many multiplayer games and while playing it is impossible to remember the many gamertags in order to be able to meet the really cool people again.

Did you both have each other on your friends list?
Because if I remember correctly, friends are automatically put on this list of people who follow "you". I have already noticed that I can still see people who I have deleted from the friends list on this list because they still follow me.
Unfortunately, I don't have my PS4 on hand now to look more closely. But maybe you could find this person through this list of people who are following "you". (Unless Sony has also updated this list away)
