Do you also think that games are broken by skill-based matchmaking?

In games like CS: GO I find a matchmaking system very useful, but e.g. With Fortnite and the new Call of Duty, I find skill-based matchmaking to destroy the games.

Of course, it also has advantages to only play against opponents who are at the same skill level, but I think games like Fortnite or CoD break the games because you sometimes play these games because sometimes you want to have a round where you destroy all / many opponents. Every time playing against equally strong opponents is just super boring in my opinion (as I said except for CS: GO for example)

What is your opinion on this (from the gamers)

Pa

I also see it that way.

It totally loses motivation to get better. Because if you get better, you also get better opponents. It is a doom-loop.

Ri

It's about improving yourself and not just getting rid of a bunch of noobs. That is my opinion, but I'm also more of a CS gambler.

bo

Yes, that's how I see it at CS: GO, but in games like Call of Duty in particular, you buy the game more because you want to wrestle with everything. Get lots of kills in a row and then get sick killstreaks, which in turn bring you even more kills. To end up with a blatant K / D in 1st place ^^ So actually the game has always been based on it, there are always popping points when you kill someone. And yes now comes this turn that just doesn't fit in my opinion haha.

Ri

I can understand, but is there still a casual fashion next to the MM in such games?

bo

There are different modes, Search and Destroy is similar to Matchmaking and then there are e.g. Free4All, Teamdeathmatch and so on. But no matter what fashion you play, you get about equally strong opponents.

Ri

Yes, I think that's stupid. There should be a clear ranking system like in CS: GO and there should still be the casual alternative, which is the same as the MM only without ranks (I don't find this optimally solved in CS either, because the casual fashion there's only a bad one Clapping is).

bo

Exactly my opinion haha, that would be satisfied.

League mode was first introduced in Bo2. In Cod Ghost 2 months later. In Bo3, Bo4 since publication. There were and are separate communities such as MLG, ESL, UMG, etc., which allow players to play goal-oriented under certain conditions.

bo

I did not play Bo3, Bo4 and Ghosts (or Ghosts only very briefly) but I did Bo2 for a while. Didn't pay attention to whether there's this mode with Bo2, but yes that will be right. This is also good because you can play this mode or you can choose to play Free4All, Teamdeathmach etc. Without a matchmaking system. But the problem with the new CoD (i.e. Modern Warfare), if you want to play the modes mentioned there (Free4All, TDM, etc.), a matchmaking system is automatically integrated which only matches you with approximately equally strong opponents. So you can't avoid being matched with equally strong opponents. Of course, without a matchmaking system, you are often destroyed by even more blatant opponents, but so the rounds stay away where you all spit off yourself: / And so the thrill is somehow gone in my opinion, unfortunately, Fortnite has meanwhile become the same principle. As I said, there are exceptions like CS: GO where I find that useful, but unfortunately not with CoD and Fortnite.
