Does my girlfriend need to upgrade the i7 4790k? She just wants to stream and play games like GTA 5, Fortnite, Valorant, Cyberpunk and if GTA 6 comes out, definitely that too.

She has installed the following

i7 4790k

32 GB RAM

250 GB SSD & 1 TB HDD.

RTX 2060 Super.

La

The named CPU should - until now - actually suffice.
Maybe to GTA 6, if that comes at all, I would definitely upgrade.

But to be honest, upgrading never hurts. (Unless you get yourself into a big bottleneck with it.)

Hairy greetings!

Ab

Not necessarily. It just came over the graphics card. The packs.

Ja

The processor is 4th generation. She can't upgrade it. At least not without further ado. Also have the 4th generation. From the 5th generation there was DDR4 ram. And no 1151 fits on the mainboard. But it needs a mainboard with a 1151 socket. D.H. You would not only have to throw away the processor, but also the RAM and the mainboard.

So it is not possible / useful to upgrade your PC. But the processor should be sufficient for the games mentioned. Except maybe for Cyberpunk 2077. It wasn't enough for me, so I had to give Cyberpunk2077 back to Steam

Strictly speaking, the 5th generation according to the designation (e.g. I5-5500k) was an OEM line and was relabeled the 4th.

Ja

Is a completely different base. That does not fit. Because I have the problem. Wanted to have the i9-9900 k back then. For me, the processor is always busy while the GPU chills

Also has an encoder.

The old box has nothing to do with upgrading. The system is at an end.

The CPU is already overwhelmed with the RTX2060.

Straming and cyberpunk will hardly work properly with the old Intel basis.

She got the PC for 200 euro (without graphics card), was it worth it?

Ja

Yes, definitely worth it. She could take it apart and sell the parts for 500 euro
