CPU 100% and GPU 20%?

I have the following problem:

I play Fortnite and currently have problems with my FPs, they go down to 40 for a short time. So I checked my task manager and saw that my CPU is almost 100% busy. And my graphics card doesn't go over 20%. How can it be that it makes such a big difference. My CPU doesn't get warmer than 77 degrees.

PC components

CPU i5 8600 @ 3.10Ghz but has a speed of 4GHz

Gtx 1060 OC 6 GB

Ram 8 GB 2400hz

AsusTek Tuf-H310 plus gaming

Download HWMonitor or comparable and check the CPU temperatures. Sometimes it helps to dust the inside of the computer and its fans.

pu

If this only happens intermittently, the problem could be that your CPU is overheating. This then clocks down & you lose frames. Have you ever observed the occupancy in general? Is the GPU higher then? Actually, it should be the other way around. GPU at the limit & processor not at its limit.

What kind of RAM is installed?

Ei

Did it once, my CPU is at 77 degrees. Is that too much?

Ei

My GPU is always low. 8GB ram is installed

pu

Shouldn't actually be. Actually shows that the power can't be used.

Ei

This means?

Ap

It's already high, but still within the limits of gaming. Anything over 95 degrees would definitely be too high.

First remove the dust!

What else can you do:

- Deactivate onboard graphics card in the device manager (if available)

- Update health check and drivers (there are various tools, e.g. Also from Intel)

- In the NVIDIA system control, all calculations are outsourced to the GPU. It may be that the Fortnite engine is quite CPU-heavy (but not specified)

pu

Borderline but not too much. Does the temperature go over it at some point while gambling?

Ei

No, it doesn't go any higher.

pu

What is wrong. What kind of motherboard & RAM are installed?

Ei

There's an AsusTek TUF H310-Plus gaming built in and holds 8 GB of RAM

pu

How does the RAM clock?

Ei

2400Mhz

Do you have your monitor connected to the graphics card and not in the mainboard?

Ei

Yes, it is connected to the graphics card via Displayport. My motherboard doesn't have a display port either

Ei

Do i need bigger ram?

pu

That would definitely help, but your processor limits your GPU, but unfortunately I can't explain why. Your i5 is perfectly strong enough for the GTX, the problem must be somewhere else.

Ei

Hmm, I'll probably never find out

Ei

Can it be the 8GB RAM. Should I upgrade to 16? Or should I try to overclock my CPU?

Ka

No
