I can only tell you my personal view of things. I played Pokémon GO very actively when it was released and a year after. When I stopped, I didn't feel any hate or love, it was a nice game for me to spend time with friends.
Fortnite, on the other hand, I played and didn't find it good. The reason is relatively simple. I can't do anything with the BattleRoyale genre. I don't feel love or hate for the game. I don't like it and what I hear should make the community very "childish". If Fortnite keeps all the children out of the "real" shooters, I don't mind.
I could easily explain to myself why a love for a game turns into a hate. A simple word "followers" or "peer pressure". If the majority choose to hate Fortnite, there will surely be some people who hate the game just to be part of it. Does it make sense? Not at all.
