Too bad ping for multiple users?

I have an A1 landline WLAN with 20Mbps. When I play Fortnite games and who else streams in the WLAN, the ping increases rapidly to over 100ms. Can I improve by taking another tariff with a higher data rate or doing other things?

ly

Yes. Switching to Ethernet would probably help too.

Ke

Basically bandwidth ≠ speed.

Can you compare like candy.

If you buy 20 or 100 candies it doesn't matter because they all taste the same.

It depends, increased bandwidth may work well depends on what the others are doing on the net. 4k streams can have bandwidth

Buckle quickly.

The cheap solution would be to store the ports of the game server in the router, which ensures that you have a direct connection to the server.

Di

And how does that work with A1?

Ke

Activate ports in the router has nothing to do with the provider.

ly

Upload is probably the problem for you. With a 20 Mbit line you usually don't have 5 Mbit / s available for the upstream. This is why additional latency arises when the users in the network fully occupy the upload bandwidth.

Ke

Unfortunately wrong, the down and upload are completely separate. If there's a traffic jam on the one lane, it does not mean that the opposite lane must also jam.

ly

Maybe it is new to you, but you can't download anything without the upload bandwidth available. So it's not that independent. Especially for transmissions over TCP.

Ke

So I have an education in the information and telecommunications area and bandwidth package lost etc. Is my daily bread, it would be 20 years behind if only upload or download would work at the same time. Unfortunately I have to tell you that you are wrongly informed.

ly

OK. Then arrange a download without sending anything to the corresponding DL server. I'm curious.
Especially without ACK over TCP.

https://www.elektronik-kompendium.de/sites/kom/0811081.html here is another exciting link to the duplex process.

ly

Full duplex says that up and down are possible at the same time. But now you say you only need down if you only want to download…

If you upload a file with theoretically 100% of the upload bandwidth, then a fast download is no longer possible in parallel. One could no longer confirm receipt of data packets.

ly

I have to say that I assumed that in the question with "Streaming" the streaming of e.g. Gameplay is meant, so upload. And with an asynchronous 20 Mbit line you are very quickly at the limit of the UL bandwidth.
