Privacy settings in Fortnite?

I wanted to adden my friend but that did not work because he had some "privacy settings" on.

When playing PS4, it may be that he has child protection and can't chat with others or anything like that. But there's also an option for all platforms to automatically reject all requests, which is intended for more popular YTers and Streamer.
