Epic Games soon to go broke?

Hi, I hate the Epic Games Store for a number of reasons. Since my last question was inadmissible, I better formulate it:

First and foremost, I don't like the store because it forces players onto the platform with the help of exclusive titles and at the same time the launcher does not work. Furthermore, the aggressive market penetration tactics of a company that nobody needs bothers me.

Finally, the "freemium" principle of the game "Fortnite", which was stolen and modified by other game developers, bothers me, which successfully pulls pocket money out of children's pockets and generates billions with it.

Is there a way to get exclusive titles differently? If not, how long are they exclusive? Can I harm the Epic Games Store without being guilty of doing business harm?

Can I harm the Epic Games Store without being guilty of doing business harm?

How childish is that…

Gu

Completely childish and probably wasted effort. But if the provider messes with me, I like to do it the other way around. It's nice that I don't have any major problems right now.

You have not yet given me an answer to my question. The last sentence was more of a provocative question on the side

de

The Epic games store is the 2nd largest online platform for games, thanks to its regular free games, the number of active users is increasing significantly. If you don't like it, why don't you just ignore it? I don't have high hopes that he goes bankrupt.

Di

But if the provider makes gambling mad for me

Just don't overdo it… If you don't like a provider, ignore it…

Ka

As the originator of the Unreal Engine, Epic makes more money with the licenses than they ever could with their store. Epic even generates most of its sales through Steam.

But apart from that, what you are describing is only your personal feeling. I find the launcher and the company very interesting and I think it's good that someone competes with Steam. The marketing strategy of the free events and exclusive titles now stimulates business. Exclusive titles have always existed, or is that why you think Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo are bad?

And no, as an individual you won't be able to achieve anything. If Epic's policies don't suit you, you can just boycott them. You are not alone there.

Mo

I don't quite understand your concern.

If you don't like the platform or the whole company, then stay away from it. Nobody forces you to use any of it.

with the help of exclusive titles on the platform

Nobody is forced there either. Lured maybe, but not forced.

Furthermore, the aggressive market penetration tactics of a company that nobody needs bothers me.

Then just don't use the platform. You almost sound like the operator of Steam who could be bothered by that. What do you mind about it?

Lastly, the "freemium" principle bothers me

A lot of companies bother you there. Do not use their services. Very easily.

Can I harm the Epic Games Store without being guilty of doing business harm?

Clear. Don't buy their products.

Gu

Well, I'm usually not interested in whether Apple is bringing out a new Iphone, I don't have to go along with the madness. But in that case the Epic Games Store comes across to me extremely. As described above, I found the "Fortnite" money machine to be out of order and have always avoided Epic Games.

But now the operator wants to win even more customers with its aggressive market penetration strategy and buys exclusive rights. That is the reason why I can't play games that are interesting to me like Tony Hawks or the remake of Crysis. It just goes too far for me and I find that extremely intrusive. If the store itself had been redesigned instead and the money had been used sensibly, I would have thought about using it again

Gu

I can't, as more and more games are being sold exclusively there. It has worked well for the past two years. I couldn't use Borderlands for a long time, just like Tony Hawk or Crysis. I can think of a few more titles…

de

So to your first point. There are so many games you can spend money on and one has a bigger advantage than another. Fortnite does not offer a P2W factor and it is entirely up to the buyer whether he buys something or not. On your second point, every company in the world is profit-based, so trying to drive your rival out of the market to increase your own profits is just normal marketing, which is unfair, but that's how the market works.

Gu

I definitely agree with you on the first point. What bothers me here is the psychological impact, especially on children. The problem is particularly prevalent with mobile games.

I would partially disagree with the second point. Steam made it possible to support small studios already during the development phase and gave them a platform. Whether Steam always acts morally is an open question.

But buying exclusive rights to a game only benefits the Epic Games Store, not the players. There's no added value for the customer and little added value for the developer.

You could also get potential customers to use the store by doing better things that Steam and other launchers don't do as well. You could improve the stability, offer more titles instead of exclusive titles, revise the store and what do I know what everything. Instead, the vault is burned and the player is forced onto a platform that he actually does not want to use.

Gu

That's how I usually do it
I Agree
That potential is only wasted here. See my answer to "markeyplayer".
Right & I agree, that's exactly how I do it
I don't want to buy "their" products, I want to buy products from developers that I find exciting. Epic Games intervenes here and withholds the title from me if I don't want to buy it through their website. Only that makes me feel so sorry, otherwise I could safely ignore the store. But after the 4th title it annoys me.

Di

None of the titles mentioned are exclusive to the Epic Store…

Gu

Yes, Tony Hawks pro Skater 1 + 2 (pure nostalgia), the remake of "Crysis" and Borderlands 3 was an exclusive title for a long time

Gu

If you find me today for Tony Hawks pro Skater 1 + 2 (remake version) a key for PC which is not connected to the Epic store, then I'll give you a Paysafecard worth 10 euro. Better than shoving it down their throat

Di

Oh, you're talking about the remake…

Well… Exclusive titles are available on every platform, insofar as → buy there or not play…

Gu

I got a little furious, there's also xbox and ps4, that's right. Nevertheless, there are simply a lot of titles meanwhile, and the disappointment with the release is great for me

Gu

Thank you for your nuanced answer.

As a software developer you would probably be in good hands with Epic, maybe you can revise the launcher.

Cy

I will now leave out your "fishing for ideological confirmation" with regard to epic.

Is there a way to get exclusive titles differently? If not, how long are they exclusive? Can I harm the Epic Games Store without being guilty of doing business harm?

No, that's why it's called "exclusive".
If titles are "time exclusive", then there's no time rule about how much time has to pass.
No, anyone who harms someone (especially on purpose!) Is liable to prosecution.

Di

Then send an email with a bold "mimimi" to Epic…

Seriously: As I said… That's the way it is…
