Why does the whirlpool at the Yacht always disappear on my Fortnite?

Was just about to do Week 1's postponed mission that says, "inflict damage on enemies within 10 seconds of using a whirlpool on the yacht." However, the whirlpool always disappears directly from me. You can see it for about 1 second and then it has completely disappeared?!
