I'm currently living in a rehabilitation clinic. I used my old notebook, but unfortunately I poured a glass of water on the keyboard of my notebook. That worked, a few days later the keyboard stopped working. Then I connected an external USB keyboard. But then the notebook stopped working. (Despite the power cable!)
Then I wanted to quickly buy a new notebook, which I did through Amazon. I'm no longer allowed to leave the rehabilitation clinic I'm in because of the coronavirus pandemic.
My newly purchased notebook arrived within 24 hours.
I have now played "Fortnite" & there's usually not enough RAM available.
Now MY QUESTION: Can I expand the RAM of my notebook? I now own the following notebook: Lenovo Yoga 530-14IKB (i5-8250U, 8GB, 256GB-SSD)
As I read there, https://www.crucial.de/compatible-upgrade-for/lenovo/yoga-530-14ikb is not allowed.
If you can open the notebook from the bottom, you should have another memory
be applicable. Your 8 Gb memory should be 1 bar, with which a 2nd can still be used.

Get well soon!
But it even says that 16GB cost 68.43 euro!
Huh? Do you get it wrong or do I? O_O
Well, I read it again in the forum and it was said that it is allowed, it is DDR4 RAM just have to see which SO-Dimm RAM you are using
Sorry for the false statement
I did some research. The manufacturer offers this laptop with more RAM as well as larger internal memory, so yes there's the possibility to expand it. But now you have to see if you can even expand this with this laptop.
With laptops, this can sometimes be more complicated and expensive. The question then is whether it is even worth it. It can also happen that during the conversion (not requested by the manufacturer) your guarantee (if you have one, but is actually standard) for your laptop can be lost.
So either your PC has 1 x 8 GB memory or 2 x 4 GB. If once 8GB then just install a second 8 GB (preferably the same). With 2 times 4 both out and also 2 times 8 GB install that should be enough.
The mainboard also only has 2 spaces free, hence this combination
Hope could help you further, have a nice day. ^^
And get well soon and good luck, especially during the Corona period.
The website you linked even says:
Storage
Maximum memory: 16GB
* The RAM supported by the manufacturer must not be exceeded.
Slots: 1 (1 bank of 1)
Standard memory: 8GB removable
So would it work? O_O
I just need to find out if it's the following.
DDR4-2666 SODIMM
DDR4-2400 SODIMM
DDR4-3200 SODIMM
How can I find out?
Yes, your laptop can be upgraded. But you need a 16GB module because your laptop only has one slot for RAM. Getting there's very easy. You only need to loosen the screws on the underside and then your Ram bolt is hidden under a black cover.
That would be one because I found in the forum: Timetec Hynix IC DDR4 2400MHz PC4-19200 Non ECC Unbuffered 1.2V CL17 2Rx8 Dual Rank 260 Pin SODIMM Laptop Notebook Computer Memory Ram Module Upgrade (8GB) https://www.amazon.de/...078SJ72FC/
@ dariomo1
Thank you for your answer, help and wishes for the better!
But this notebook probably only has one RAM slot, not 2.
Another user here on Girlfriend wrote the link to a page that says that there's only one RAM slot, or is that foolish?
https://www.crucial.de/compatible-upgrade-for/lenovo/yoga-530-14ikb
But that doesn't help me. My notebook already has 8GB of RAM & only one RAM slot. But I want 16GB of RAM. The Amazon link from you leads to an 8GB RAM module.
@flauski
Many thanks for your response!
I used to install a RAM bar in my old notebook.

So should I better check with the manufacturer to be on the safe side?
I think it's not that difficult for me. I used to be able to do that too. It would only be a shame if I couldn't use my notebook for several days or weeks. I use it every day! It's super important to me!
So I tried to find the mainboard. I just couldn't find anything about it, neither on the website nor on dealers who provide information about it. If nothing is written about that, I suspect that it is not intended to be exchanged, that is now pure speculation on my part. Here are my sources for that.
https://www.notebookcheck.com/...230.0.html
Where I had information about the device. I did not find the mainboard that is specified there.
Hm? But the following is written on NotebookCheck:
Main memory: 8192 MB, DDR4, 2400 MHz, single-channel, 1 of 2 banks occupied
So there are 2 RAM banks? O_O
You keep your warranty as long as you have caused a possible defect yourself. The upgrade per se does not affect the warranty.
PS: Google Teardown Lenovo Yoga 530. It is really extremely easy with your model.
I think that means the memory that you can expand with a 2. That is written there very imprecisely and I would not rely on the information. There's really hardly any information about it on the Internet. ^^
Okay… If I don't break anything, can you check that I have installed & removed the RAM module? O_O
Samsung M471A2K43CB1-CRC memory module 16 GB DDR4 2400 MHz - memory modules (16 GB, 1 x 16 GB, DDR4, 2400 MHz, 260-pin SO-DIMM) https://www.amazon.de/...077PJPCRZ/
8GB is easily enough for the game.
Certainly, you can already tell from a screw whether it has been moved several times. But what is it important for? The warranty does not exclude an upgrade.
No? There's often the error message that there's not enough memory when Fortnite crashes!
Then deactivate everything in the autostart.
Take a picture of the message.
The error message doesn't come up every time. But the RAM is shown in the task manager at 8 GB by 8 GB! So it is not enough! PCs to play should have at least 16 GB!
Many thanks for the answer! I will probably do that. 8GB RAM is not enough for me now! :>
No. https://systemanforderungen.com/spiel/fortnite
Yes, it says 8GB is recommended. But not enough for my notebook if it crashes more often with the 8GB!
I set the graphic setting all to LOW. : /
