Upgrade gpu or cpu?

Moin, my buddy tells me that he wants to upgrade his cpu. He has a 1650 and an amd ryzen 5 2600x. I tell him that he should upgrade his gpu, because he mainly only uses fortnite, but he means that if he can get more performance out of his cpu upgrade.

Actually, the CPU and graphics card should be enough.

What about the other parts (power supply, ram, hard drives)

In the configuration it already has a bottleneck of almost 9.2% (at 1080p), which is caused by the GPU. The bottleneck becomes even larger in higher resolution.

With a better CPU, no game will run even 1 fps better. With a better graphics card, yes.

Fortnite should run smoothly with the hardware in 1080p anyway.

Regardless of which games he plays, it always makes sense to check which component is the bottleneck before upgrading.

If his CPU with 4 cores runs at the limit, an upgrade to a processor with higher single core performance would make sense.
If his CPU is running at its limit with all 12 threads, a processor with more cores would make sense
If his GPU is running at its limit, a better GPU would make sense
If its RAM overflows into the swap file, more RAM would make sense
