Fortnite screen tearing with 60hz monitor?

Hello screentearing since the new update, which settings should I use to get no more? I always capped at max 120fps and played windows in full screen to no longer have screentearing. As of today (new season update), tearing has reappeared. Proposals? Got a Gtx 1060

and Ryzen 5 1600

Samsung monitor 1080p 60hz

Lower the FPS if the FPS is higher than the Hertz performance of the monitor. You can also turn on V Sync but mostly leads to input lags.

Al

Have tried with 60 fps cap tearing, for whatever reason. I prefer to skip Vsync

Jo

Simply making the cap to 60 FPS does not work, you have to activate V-Sync but then there's input lag.

For this reason there are FreeSync and G-Sync monitors.

Al

Yes, I will soon get a new one with 144hz and Gsync. It's annoying! And only since the new update, is there a chance that it is up to fortnite itself? I mean before it worked perfectly for over 1.5 years

Jo

Doesn't have to be a G-Sync. Nvidia cards can now also run with FreeSync monitors (I also have them). FreeSync monitors are just cheaper.

Yes, tearing is different for every game.

Gave games where I had no tearing without V-Sync and other games it was just extreme. What Fortnite changed I can't tell you I don't play the game so I don't have much to do with it.

Ai

Only VSync can help, possibly with triple buffering. Without sync, tearing always occurs.

Al

No, it worked for 1.5 years without screen tearing.

Al

I beg your pardon? Nvidia can run with Freesync nowadays? So I don't need Gsync anymore? Freesync does the same thing as Gsync

I have the same problem, what the answers above forgot is that normally if you play with full screen in the window tearing does not occur because windows desktop uses a kind of sync to suppress tearing, since the new update I think the full screen is in window mode broken by fortnite, had no tearing with the same settings before and now that only the update of fortnite has changed it will be because

I thought you could use a third party program (borderless windowed gaming or something like that) to maybe get it back (but can't test it myself because I'm not at home)

Ag

Windowed borderless gaming does not work either, there's no screen tearing in the window, full screen in the window does. Very funny. That was not before the update and theoretically Windows desktop manager should regulate all games that run in the window with their own sync and avoid tearing with little input lag.

I have the solution.

Newer Windows updates use the full screen in window mode without the triple buffering vsync of Windows in some games = screen tearing.

You can avoid this by downloading "Windowed Borderless Gaming" (start the game and put it on the window, then close it). Open Borderless gaming, open the game, then select the game in Borderless Gaming, add the arrow to the right to favorites, then right-click on it, no size change → then set window size → x position 0 → y position 0 → width 1920 → height 1079 (one pixel less than your resolution width) → then on the symbol in the middle which should enlarge your window to the resolution. The only problem now is that you can see the taskbar. Simply download "Taskbar Eliminator", then you can show or hide the taskbar with alt + t.

Result: Fortnite thinks you play in the window, which allows Windows to use its own sync system (triple buffering via the desktop) = less input lag and uncapped fps

If you just play full screen in the window, Fortnite prevents the use of this system.

No more screen tearing and uncapped fps + no input lag (at least not noticeable to me).
