Are children (today) worse or children (before)?

Many have noticed that children of today almost only play shooting games like Fortnite or no matter how much Baller Scrap and that they even get cell phones in school.

I'm a 90s kid, I grew up with Pokémon even though I missed Pokemon (Anime) a lot, I'm not as addicted to shooting games as today's kids, I hate Fortnite and other shooting games, I tend to play Adventure games, Pokemon games and simulations like OntheRoad - The Truck Simulator, I only got cell phones from 16 years of age.

How do you think so?

pr

Today 11 year olds walk around with expensive clothes, spit on the floor and just feel.

Back then it wasn't about how much you had, it was about something much more important, such as fun, loyalty, etc.

Pa

Yes, it's true, eight year olds are already on their cell phones and take them to school and play around with them during breaks, if not in class. Instead, the children used to be wilder when they played their Indian games with real knives or when "two warring gangs" were fighting, they threw stones at each other. Wounds were almost the order of the day. What is worse now?

ei

I think it doesn't matter when kids get their cell phones. However, parents should pay attention to which games and how long the children play with the electric toys. And my children grew up in the 1990s, when Nintendo and the like already existed. It was also a plague. This annoyed some parents, and then they encouraged their children to lend it to my children so that it is out of the house. Not even the fine kind!

Va

It is not important when a cell phone is given (or Nintendo etc.), but how. With the right introduction and education, none of this is a problem…

Le

Both are "bad" (or at least neither of these generations is worse than the other).

So are you from the 90s? Grown up with Pokemon and had a cell phone aged 16 and over.

I can undercut the whole thing even further because I'm a bit older. Does that make me "better"? No.

Explanation:

Each generation grows with other things that are current / trendy. Whether in the field of music, in the field of games, in the field of fashion or electronics.

For you it was the beginning of Pokemon (I just checked when it started with Pokemon). Pokemon is still more or less popular with some of the current youth. Every now and then, however, are the older relatives who took the current generation of young people with them in this area of interest.

Meanwhile there are other games etc that are "modern". And in the next generation of young people there will be other games that are popular.

You had a cell phone from 16 … Fine. It's great, because that's handy as a teenager. Eventually the public payphones gradually disappeared from the general cityscape.

When you walk through the cities these days, there are hardly any public telephones. Proper payphones (aka phone booths where you have to throw coins in to be able to continue making calls) I haven't seen for ages. Accordingly, it is now much more practical and safer to provide a cell phone to an adolescent. So this adolescent can call (and be called) at home at any time if necessary / in an emergency.

As a child / teenager, I could still rely on public pay phones… And later on the public phones that worked with the special card. Accordingly, I only "needed" a cell phone when I was a bit over 20 years old. Well, actually I didn't "need" it… But I wanted it, it gave me a bit of independence. I could call and could be reached without having to ask "May I call a taxi quickly" in the next bar.

If I think about it very carefully, there's no single generation in which "the children are worse / better". Just "different" in the area of interests.

The desire of an adolescent to swim with the current wave (clothes, hairstyle, styling in general, music consumption, films, other things) did not and does not affect every adolescent. Even in my youth, some young people did everything they could to "be in". The latest trends, the latest branded products, the latest music. And in my youth there were always teenagers who missed the buttocks. They wore what they wanted, heard what they wanted, and didn't let themselves be carried away by the "hype".

Today it looks no different. Some are like that - others are different.

Back then there were idiots, today too. Back then there was loyalty - today too. Back then there were young people who rebelled against the adults / didn't want to be told by them anymore - today too.

Conclusion: Basically nothing has changed.

If you were to represent it with a cake, you could say: the cake itself has not changed. Just its color and decoration.

And the right rules of use and tools so that these rules are (can) be observed! The kids have to learn that little by little! To believe that it will work so easily, if you just say it would be naive. And that's why the children are far from being angry and disobedient!

Va

I didn't say anything either…

The kids have to learn that little by little!

Yeah exactly what I said.

To believe that it will work so easily, if you just say it would be naive.

This is exactly the opposite of what I said:

With the right introduction and education, none of this is a problem…

So: In summary, I just wanted to say that it is not necessarily the medium but mostly the way they are dealt with (mostly it's the legal guardians) … So we both had the same point.

ei

In summary, I just wanted to say that it wasn't
necessarily on the medium

yes and no, you probably meant, but you were still too imprecise for that!

but mostly in dealing (…) with them

No! The kids have to learn how to use it slowly! That from the children because of a

proper introduction and education

to expect would be completely overwhelming! All! And therefore with

the correct rules of use and tools that these rules are (can) be complied with!

And therefore

it's just the legal guardians

responsible! And therefore responsible for it! And many parents are simply overwhelmed!

Th

Since today's parents support their children much better in their development, the children today are also much better.

What you describe with the computer games is only a tiny aspect that can be looked at. You can also pay attention to other things, e.g. How the children treat other children or how they react to adults.

Er

When I was on the city buses, I hadn't heard anything from the kids other than Fortnite.

My childhood wasn't as extreme as it is today.
