Can you play games like gta or assassin creed on the x box series with an external hard drive?

You all probably know that the x box series s has very little memory. I also heard that hard drives with USB 3.0 can be connected to the x box. Now to my question. Can you also use it to play games like gta assassin creed Valhalla, Forza horizon 4 or fortnite? I had read that you can't play games with it for the x box series s / x

You can connect an HDD hard drive via USB connection, yes, but you will then play the Xbox One version and not the Series version.
