If you react too slowly, this could also be due to your ping and / or your (possibly low) frame rates.
If you just start Fortnite and jump straight into a round, die and then start a new match, you will at most gain some experience, but will not get any better.
I recommend that you play creative mode for at least an hour (initially two or more hours would be even better).
