My son (13 without console) wants to play Fortnite or other shooting games all the time and is that good or bad for him?
Whether good or bad is an open question - I'm afraid that boys want to 'gamble' at this age is normal. My son will be turning 17 soon - we've had some fights in the last few years (how much on the computer, what games, how long at night). He's going to graduate now - is slowly becoming more reasonable.
You should definitely pay attention to what your son plays - you should be careful that he does not play a social role in the play and that the school performance does not suffer from the gambling. Talk to him regularly about what he's playing, be interested in his activities without being too much of a control, and explain to him why 'stopping' is also important.
Whether shooting games are good for a 13 year old? The question answers almost by itself.
Fortnite is over 12, but with a 13-year-old you should watch the time he spends at the PC / console and watch what kind of people he surrounds with… Generally ball games are rather bad for old age… And generally you should always have control over it, so he does not neglect the rest of his life. Would be at least good, but at the end of the day your decision as a guardian.
Ask your son why he wants to play this.
The opinions and "facts" about it go far apart.
I would not say that it is good or bad.
Many adults also do things that are not "good" in the first place. Smoking for example.
There are many different ways to talk about it.
Are you really interested in the "shooting games" (can you call them tactical simulators), or maybe even the time in front of the screen? In time you could do "reasonable" things.
There are legal age requirements for games where you can orient yourself.

I think computer games are not alone responsible for school masks or the like.
Some incidents in the past have been said to have played Counterstrike - I'm sure they all ate the bread too.
I wish for you an exchange and a solution with which all more or less agree.
