Yes I could not understand many hypes mostly like that. I just do not know which one anymore. Just mention some. I did not like Star Wars before. HIMYM and these weird knights series walking dead.
You say yes Minecraft would be the new fortnite. Well I do not like Minecraft and yes, there used to be a lot of youtubers playing Minecraft. A lot of advertising for Minecraft.

You can see Fortnite everywhere. And as a hardcore hardcore (5000+ hours a year) PC player, you're frustrated. Fortnite is just another copy of a game. Nothing new. Garry's Mod + Arma 3 + TF2 = Fortnite
But now more and more people call themselves "gamers". Those who reach maybe 10 hours in 1 week. (FYI, I play at least 5 hours a day) Also the diversity of games. I played at least 10 different games in 1 year. Today you have people who call themselves gamer and only play COD.
In the past people were proud to call themselves gamer. Nowadays you keep it a secret.
At Fortnite you can also see in reality how small children in school do all these dances. Some dances also spoil former culture, e.g. The Epic Saxguy.

I played Fortnite myself for a while. Before the hype.
I did not have Fortnite, but the hype got on my nerves. People, children who have nothing else to do with games, suddenly started with them and called themselves gamers because they had a game in their hands. You felt a little bit hugged.
